change

ABSTRACT:

As quoted by Mahatma Gandhi “ BE THE CHANGE THAT YOU WISH TO SEE IN THE WORLD”, it is easier to comprehend the significance of change more vividly through this citation. The concept of change is simply a general approach or a notion which is adopted directly or indirectly in order to enhance one’s skills and abilities. The concept of change is basically not just constrained to one’s personal development but is extended to the community and organisations at large.

The following article aims to emphasize the concept of change, reasons why a person needs change and change management. In the words of John C. Maxwell, “Most people want to change the world to improve their lives, but the world they need to change first is the one inside themselves”. Thus, it is quite clear that to bring about a change in the world it is necessary to take the first step by instigating minute changes within oneself. As a consequence, these minute changes ultimately lead to major improvisations in one’s daily schedule. Becoming static and rigid by nature does not lead to new beginnings rather deteriorates the present well being of any individual organization or institution. Resistance to change can have an adverse impact on the physical, mental, and sentimental health of a person.

MEANING OF CHANGE:

Change has become part of everyone’s lives as well as corporate existence. Change or, alter both mean to make a difference in the state or condition of a thing or to substitute another state or condition.

To change is to make a material difference so that the thing is distinctly different from what it was for e.g. to change one’s opinion. Life is all about changes and dynamism. One can not forge ahead in this modernized and civilized society by avoiding changes and sticking to the same pattern of living and lifestyle. Changes are an inevitable and indispensable part of one’s life. The more reluctantly one behaves towards any kind of changes the more he lacks behind in matching the pace with others. Acceptance of changes is the only method which should be adopted in order to persist in the community and keep up with the social norms.

WHAT IS THE NEED OF CHANGE IN A PERSON’S LIFE?

Change is an integral part of a person’s life. It helps an individual to enhance his professionalism as well as his personality and skills. A small variation in one’s perspective and outlook towards others and oneself can prove to be quite favourable in enhancing one’s code of conduct in general. Hence, here are some reasons defining the point why changes are important in a person’s life :

  • PERSONAL GROWTH:

A person gains insight and discovers the different aspects of his life by adapting to various major and minor changes in his life. It is not always necessary that changes lead us to our expected destination but sometimes changes may impart relevant lessons leading to personal growth in a human being.

  • FLEXIBILITY:

Resorting to frequent changes results in flexibility in the nature of a person. It becomes an easy peasy task for an individual to assimilate to a new environment, new circumstances, and new people without freaking out.

  • IMPROVEMENT:

The key to achieving success is to do things in a distinctive manner. Every person has fields in which they wish to improvise their performance like finances, job, career, fitness, etc. These improvements can be made only when we adapt to changing situations and take challenges as an opportunity to learn and grow.

  • LIFE VALUES:

As time flies, we grow up learning and adjusting to new values. A character of content can be build only when it is moulded with good values and ethics. One important advantage of accepting changes is that with the passage of time, a person learns to accommodate himself according to his present conditions and act accordingly.

  • THE SNOWBALL EFFECT:

As it is taught to a child that one step at a time leads to one’s desired destination. Similarly, it is a complexed task to acculturate to immediate and anonymous changes at once. Every individual needs time to come in terms with any new variation. Thus, one step at a time can eventually lead to drastic new changes in one’s routine life.

  • PROGRESS:

Shifting oneself from an old lifestyle to a new one can be quite strenuous. But once these changes are accepted triggers progress. Things and people move forward only when they behave in a positive manner towards these coming.

  • OPPORTUNITIES:

One never knows what each change may bring. When you turn away from your usual path and take up a new one there will be plenty of different opportunities waiting for you. Changes will bring new choices for happiness and fulfilment.

  • NEW BEGINNINGS:

Life is like a book with many unread chapters. These chapters are changes that come along with some moral lessons in our life. Eventually as one understands the relevance of these changes they see new beginnings and opportunities in each thing they do. Rather, they try and create new ones for themselves.

  •  RELAXATION:

The movie Stranger than Fiction shows why changes are an important part of one’s routine life. The main character Harold Crick does the same things at exactly the same time for years. He leads a completely dull, extremely predictable, and uninteresting life. Consequently, it is quite clear that if one leads a life so monotonous then it would be difficult to survive in this era. Hence, one can say that changes bring composure in our lives and gives us rest from our scheduled and unexciting daily routine.

These are some chief reasons why changes are necessary to lead a better and uncomplicated life.

CHANGE MANAGEMENT:

Many people spend a great deal of effort trying to avoid change, but it will inevitably catch up to you. Whether it’s starting a new job, moving to a different city, the end of a relationship, or a loss of a loved one it is hard to accomplish the task of shifting one’s fixed routine to a new transition. Changes in life happen, and they happen all the time. Things happen for good and bad reasons and much of change is beyond our control. How we handle change is within our control. There will always be external events that cause change, but one still needs to take control of their own reactions and attitudes towards these changes. Here are some tips to help a person in managing changes in their life without adding undue stress.

  • EXPECT CHANGE:

The best way to design an effective change outcome in your life is to be proactive and design a management strategy that is easy for you to follow. Our life can be viewed as a succession of chapters, each with its own theme and characteristics. So, it is better to embrace the upcoming changes and keep moving forward in life.

  • BE YOURSELF:

Each one in this entire universe is incomparable in their own respect. God has gifted everyone human being with distinct talents, abilities, knowledge and opinions. Making a prudent use of them is solely one’s own choice. You will do a better job at handling change in your life if you handle change with your own set of tools rather than trying to work with somebody else. Hence, being original and being yourself is the key to adopting new changes in life.

  • ACCEPT THE SITUATION AND CHANGE YOUR OUTLOOK:

We cannot change the circumstances surrounding us but we can change our perspective and outlook towards those situations. Rather than being perturbed, it is better to go with the flow. Observe the situation calmly, and act according to the situation. Life is too short not to be making the best out of situations and fretting over things that cannot be changed. Learn to adjust your expectations and change your outlook so you don’t waste moments that could have been great ones.

  • ACCEPT YOUR FATE, CHANGE YOUR PATH:

Everything that happens in our life happens for a reason. Either we attain what we expect or we learn a lesson. Therefore, all the events that occur in our daily life can neither be explained nor changed. Fate has a weird way of showing us that we aren’t always in control of whatever happens around us. If one desires to change whatever is happening in there life they have first change their path on which they are walking. Creating your own path is the best way to reach the expected destination.

  • ACCEPT THE THINGS YOU CAN’T CHANGE AND CHANGE THE THINGS YOU CAN’T ACCEPT:

Not everything in our life works as per our expectation. But there’s always a substitute for every problem. A good way out is to take a bold step to make a change but the best way out is to move forward with that change and accept the change.

There’s nothing constant in this universe. Everything and every being have to change in order to accommodate in this planet. But the change is effective only when it starts from within and then is passed on to others and eventually turns into a habit. The entire process of adapting to new changes can be very hard and troublesome for many but on the other hand, it may be a form of enjoyment to learn new things and change their own perspective (for others).

“The world as we have created it is a process of our thinking. It cannot be changed without changing our thinking.”

– Albert Einstein
