“The rights of every man are diminished when the rights of one man are threatened.”
Even in the 21st century when we live in a progressive society, the dreams of people living in an ideal world with equality for all, are not being fully recognized.
Every other day the newspaper is filled with cases of human rights violations. The worst part is that it has become the norm in today’s world. Today, the journalists are being shot dead for raising their voices to the extrajudicial killing. The latest case of George Floyd in the USA forces us to contemplate how we as a society have failed to live with equal privileges and justice for all. Even when all human beings are endowed with reason and conscience, still people have to face extreme kinds of brutalities. The existence of human rights violations is repugnant to the ideals of human society.
The NHRC, established in 1993, clearly mentions its function, as to inquire into the cases of violations. There was a ray of hope and a paradigm shift in the way of thinking of people in this matter. But, no organization can guarantee rights without the people being aware of the underlying causes. Only by ameliorating these, we can strengthen our society.
We still have time to provide to our future generation the world they deserve. But, our sacrifices would be never enough if we do not unite to fight against what’s wrong today!
